Belonging

Home / Belonging

We have lots of different ways of being in community at Lutheran Church of Peace! We are more than just a Sunday morning church, we have activities going on during the week led by our LCP community and our neighbors. Below are just some of the things going on at LCP.

Youth and Children

All of our adult volunteers who spend time with kids go through a background check.

Sunday School

Meets from 9:30 -10:00 am for 3 year olds through 4th graders. We sing, hear stories from the Bible that are the same ones we’ll hear in worship, pray, do craft and science projects or play games to help us know God’s word for us today. Sunday School runs September through May.

(Honor System) "Gentle slow-flow style yoga is an alignment based practice that focuses on improving joint mobility, balance, and supporting nervous system regulation. It's a great format for beginners or anyone nervous about trying yoga in general in a judgement free, safe space. The "trauma-informed" style from a regular class just means that more pose modifications are offered to work with mobility issues or anyone with a disability, and especially anyone who experiences anxiety and/or depression by keeping the class light and a little slower moving so everyone can find the yoga pose that works best in their bodies without the pressure of needing to get the poses "perfect" or not having enough time to get settled into it." Starts Tuesday July 7th!

The Lydias

On Zoom

We meet on zoom on the 1st Monday of the month to discuss scripture, books, and life. We go on retreat annually to sew, play stump the pastors, eat good food, share a glass of wine and laugh or cry depending on the moment. Contact Janet Traun at ladyslipper413@gmail.com to learn more. We'd love to have you join us.

Prayer Shawl

Meets on Zoom (Second Saturdays) and In Person (Fourth Saturdays) from 9:30 to 11. Pickup a shawl anytime the church is open.

Our Prayer Shawl ministry was started by Barb Bonham in January of 2008. We diligently kept records of who received shawls. In 2014 we had given 400 shawls to those in need of a shawl’s hug, comfort, care, love… Now we estimate that we have given over 1,000 shawls.

Pocket prayer shawls were started by Darlene Russell. Lisa Swanson has shared many with a friend of hers, even mails them to him to give to others in need.

Book Club

Third Wednesday at 1:30

Lutheran Church of Peace has a book club that meets once a month during the school year. (We take summers off to read on our own!) The book club currently meets on the third Wednesday of the month at 1:30 pm at church.

Sherry Johnson (sherryjohnson12@gmail.com) and Sue Zimmerman (sk_zim@msn.com) lead book club. They choose book club books from the library, so we have read all kinds of interesting literature.

Everyone is welcome to join in reading the books and participating in the lively discussions that follow. It is always interesting to hear how each of us relates to a story based on our own narratives.
